Bali Police Deploy 5,307 Personnel During Lebaran

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Bali police office has confirmed the deployment of 5,307 personnel in order to step up its security efforts during the Idul Fitri holidays from August 11-26.

The Deputy Police Chief of Bali, Brigadier General Ketut Untung Yoga Ana, stated here on Friday that the 5,307-strong police force comprised 1,300 officers on special duty and 4,007 personnel on routine duty.

"The 1,300 police officers are for the Operasi Ketupat 2012 programme, who will ensure security during Idul Fitri. Fortunately, the operation is also supported by Indonesian Military personnel," he said, after attending the morning ceremony of Operasi Ketupat 2012 at Puputan Margarana Renon, here on Friday.

The National Police have designated Bali as a priority area during the Idul Fitri holiday exodus, because the province is an international tourism destination and needs high security.

The Bali police office has set up 22 security posts in congestion-prone areas, such as Gilimanuk Port, Padang Bai Port, Mengwi and Ngurah Rai International Airport.(IGT/T007)
