Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali province in the January-November 2011 period exported US$76.69 million worth of fresh and frozen tuna, down 13.27 percent from US$88.43 million in the same period 2010.
The tuna exports fell by 20.01 percent in volume to 15,441.1 tons in the eleven months through November 2011 from 19,304 tons in the same period the year before, spokesman of the Bali provincial administration I Ketut Teneng said on Monday.
He said the tuna exports represented 16.59 percent of the province's overall exports in the January-November 2011 period, making it the biggest foreign exchange earner among 11 types of aquatic products.
The decline in tuna exports which mostly went to Japan was the result of extreme climate, he said.
He said in the 2006-2010 period, Bali's tuna exports rose by an average of 28.83 percent per year.(IGT/T007)
