Serpong, Banten (Antara Bali) - The Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) introduces various innovations in the fields of agri-industry and biotechnology which are expected to drive the economy of the people.
"All of those innovations are tested before a panel consisting of academicians, experts from ministries and non-ministerial agencies," Deputy Head of BPPT for Agro-industrial Technology and Biotechnology, Eniya Listiani Dewi, said here on Monday.
One of the technologies introduced by the agency is corn seeds of BR2 and BR4 that are adaptable to weather and disease-resistant and have a harvest period only 85 days. Generally, corn crop takes 110 days to harvest.
With those seeds, farmers can harvest their corn up to four times in a year, Eniya said, adding that other technology is the extraction process for herbal plants for medicines.
Other technologies introduced by BPPT is cattle raising in oil palm plantations and coating technology for fruit to longer the age and prevent decay.
Additionally, BPPT introduced noodles made of corn which is suitable for those who want to apply healthy lifestyle, or for diabetics sufferer, Eniya said.
She added corn noodles can now be cooked in just five minutes like the noodles made of wheat. (WDY)
