A total of 641,588 Australian tourists visited Bali last year, up 43.67 percent from 446,570 a year earlier, Chief of the Bali Provincial Statistics Office I Gede Suarsa said here on Thursday.
Of the total, 629,798 came to Bali by direct flights from their country and 11,790 by cruise liners, he said.
He said six of the top ten sources of foreign tourist arrivals last year contributed significant growth to the province's tourist arrivals, while the number of tourist arrivals from the other four main source countries fell.
Tourist arrivals from Australia rose 43.67 percent to 641,588 from 446,570, Malaysia 16.03 percent to 156,858 from 135,190, Taiwan 1.50 percent to 122,256 from 120,445, Singapore 73.96 percent to 97,402 from 56,992, Britain 2.91 percent to 96,412 from 93,688 and Germany 12.77 percent to 84,406 from 74,849.
The number of tourist arrivals from Japan meanwhile fell 26.61 percent from 333,905 in 2009 to 245,040 in 2010, China 4.48 percent from 206,151 to 196,925, South Korea 0.13 percent from 124,889 to 124,729 and France 8.31 percent from 113,453 to 104,029.
Bali saw foreign tourist arrivals grow 8.01 percent to 2.57 million last year from 2.35 million the year before.
The world-renowned tourist island has set itself a target of luring 2.6 million to 2.8 million foreign tourists this year.(*)
