Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The National Amnesty Bill is not intended for those booked on corruption charges, a legislator stated here on Tuesday.

"The bill is about tax amnesty, and we do not wish to pardon those charged with corruption. So, they may not take part in it," Muhammad Misbakhun, the secretary of the parliament's working committee for state revenues, noted here on Tuesday.

The House Commission XI member from Golkar Party remarked that the amnesty program is intended for those who stash their funds abroad, so that they would repatriate them to the national banking system.

Those who have been charged in corruption cases are not eligible for participating in the program, he pointed out.

"So, it is not true that the National Amnesty Bill is for pardoning those booked on grounds of corruption," he explained.

Thirty-three members of parliament from the Golkar Party, the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the United Development Party (PPP), and the Nation Awakening Party (PKB) have proposed the bill for prioritization in the National Legislation Program for 2015.

According to the bill, the National Amnesty Bill is a write-off of indebted tax, administrative tax sanctions, criminal sanctions in the tax field, and certain criminal sanctions for paying compensation.

Each person or entity has the right to apply for national tax amnesty. Several payment tariff categories have been created, such as three, five, and eight percent based on the period of the National Amnesty Application Letter according to the reported wealth.

Acting Deputy Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Indriyanto Seno Adji has also confirmed that the National Amnesty Bill is not directly connected to corruption crimes.

"The bill contains no word about those charged with corruption, and so, it is only related to tax amnesty," he stated.

Indriyanto added that the bill largely focuses on amnesty for tax payers. (WDY)
