"The construction of transmission should be completed first before developing the plants," Jusuf Kalla said on Tuesday.
Therefore, all planned transmission projects should be expedited and be completed in three years before 2019.
It was earlier reported that the vice president stressed on the importance of the construction of 46,000 kilometers of transmission networks in line with the government's plan to build 35,000 megawatts (MW) electricity up to 2019.
The construction of the 35,000 MW projects are intended to stimulate the economic growth in various regions in the country.
"The main point, according to Jusuf Kalla, the construction of the transmission networks should have been underway," Vice Presidential Spokesman Husein Abdullah told the press.
According to the vice president, the construction of transmission network for an electricity plant is comparable to the construction of a road for housings. Before constructing the houses, road should have been built.
He said that power plants could stay idle if they had been built but the transmission networks had not yet been constructed.
"All raw materials are now cheap so that cost could be cut by 50 percent if they are developed now," he said.
The vice president also wants that 100 percent of the components used in the construction of transmission will be domestically produced products. (WDY)
