Bandung, W Java (Antara Bali) - Bandung City in the West Java province, will host an international cat contest called "Champ of the Champ," the first of its kind in Indonesia, on August 29 and 30.

"The international contest will be held in Indonesia for the first time, with the participants being different breeds of cats from around the world," the Chairman of the contest organizing committee, Arman Hermanwan, said on Friday.

The contest will draw participation from unique cat breed owners from Malaysia, the Philippines, China, Japan, Vietnam, the United States and Indonesia.

According to Hermanwan, 235 cat owners from Indonesia and other countries had registered themselves to take part in the contest.

"The contest will feature cats of exotic breeds not found in Indonesia. The contest is expected to pique people's interest and love for animals," Hermanwan said.

The contest is being hosted through a collaboration between the Indonesian Cat Lovers Association and the Cat Fanciers Association, he pointed out, adding that the event was part of ongoing tourism activities in Bandung City.

He added that the contest had been held earlier in other countries, where cats had been certified by members of a jury from abroad.

"The foreign participants will bring their best cats and make the campaign about their love for animals. The participating cats will be immortalized by their stamps being issued," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of the Regional Tourism Promotion Board (BPPD) Bandung, Nokolaus Lomanaw, welcomed the upcoming international unique event, and said it would support Bandung's tourism promotions.

"The event is unique and of international stature. It is in support of tourism promotions and to spread the campaign surrounding love for pets. We hope there will be more such events held in Bandung," Lomanaw stated. (WDY)
