"The status of Mount Raung has been raised from Standby to Alert effective today from 9 a.m. local time, due to increased volcanic activity," Head of Observation and Research Volcano Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Gede Swastika remarked when contacted from Jember on Monday.
Gede noted that the agency has been monitoring the 3,332-meter high volcano for the past two weeks, and the frequency of tremors has increased. (WDY)
