The President was accompanied by First Lady Iriana and a number of cabinet ministers includng trade minister Rahmat Gobel and cabinet secretary Andi Widjajanto.
Andi Widjajanto said on Friday evening besides attending a Christmas celebration event President Joko Widodo also wished to meet with the people to hear in person their aspirations.
"What is clear is he wishes to hear the aspirations of the Papuan People with regard to creating a peaceful Papua," he said.
He said President Joko Wdidod is scheduled to also visit West Papua including Jayapura, Wamena and Sorong. (WDY)
