Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Former foreign minister Alwi Shihab in his preaching at Eid Al Adha prayers on Sunda Kelapa mosque here on Sunday called on all Moslems to respect differences in the community.

"As a Moslem community we must not have a feeling of superiority before others. Suspecting other groups and monitoring them only to topple them is a behavior condemned by religion," he said.

The prayers was attended by vice president-elect Jusuf Kalla and also founder of Bosowa Corporation Aksa Mahmud who is also the chairman of the mosque management council and thousands of other  Moslems.

"We in our daily life often see situation which is away from  Islamic teachings such as the presence of radical Moslem groups that under the name of Islam have damaged the teachings with their activities. The groups have acted as if God has determined who will be in heavan and in hell. They have robbed God's prerogative right," he said.

He said the groups who think they are the rightest ones have hurt Islam as a religion that is supposed to bring peace and love to all beings.

"Basically Islam teaches us to respect each other, interact with each other positively and compete to do good things for human beings," he said. In other words Islam teaches us to respect differences, he added.

He said God can create human beings as an exclusive group in terms of ethnicity, religion, skin color and race but he did not do it but he had created differences in the life of the people.

"In the holy day for improving our religious quality let us introspect, look into what we are and let us renew our faith and improve our behavior," he said.

The Eid al Adha prayers at the mosque was led by Hamsan Wadi who is the mosque's imam.

According to the chairman of the committee of the Eid al Adha commemoration at the mosque, Mulyadi,  there would be a total of 87 sheep and 22 cows to be sacrificed on the sacrifice day at the mosque.

Among those contributing the sacrifice animals is president-elect Joko Widodo.

"Pak Jokowi (Mr Joko Widodo) contributes 2 cows but he will also send sacrifice animals to other places," he said.

Other contributors include former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, vice president Boediono, chief economic minister Chairul Tanjung and Aksa Mahmud.  (WDY)
