Gorontalo (Antara Bali) - An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale rocked the provinces of North Sulawesi and Gorontalo, causing panic to residents.

The earthquake took place in Bolmong District, North Sulawesi at 7m local time on Thursday. "It triggered strong tremors so that  local residents in the two provinces became panicked," a resident said here on Thursday.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake took place at  a depth of 10 km about 131 km southeast of Bomong District, North Sulawesi, near the border with the Gorontalo Province. (DWA)
