"As the coordinating minister for political and security in 2002, I went to Sweden to pave the way for the solution of Aceh problem through a peaceful manner," President Yudhoyono said on his Twitter account @SBYudhoyono on Wednesday.
Yudhoyono said that at the time many Free Aceh Movement (GAM) figures settled in Sweden.
"The conflicts in Aceh would not be overcome without touching the knots of GAM leadership in Sweden," he noted.
"Alhamdulillah after 5 years of working, the conflicts in Aceh were overcome in 2005 through a peace agreement. Therefore let us respect and maintain it together," the president said.
President Yudhoyono was on a working visit to Sweden from May 27-29, 2013 to attend a number of events and to meet with Swedish prime minister and king. (*/DWA)
