Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Agriculture Minister Suswono denied on Friday he had discussed additional beef import quota with Hilmi Aminuddin, the chairman of the Prosperous Justice Party's Legal Council, in beef import bribery case.

"I admitted that I have met with Ustad (Muslim Scholar) Hilmi who is the chairman of the Legal Council (the Prosperous Justice Party/PKS). I am a member of the council. But we never discussed   additional beef import quota," the minister said when he took the witness stand for two suspects, Juard Effendi and Arya Abdi Effendi (directors of PT Indoguna Utama), in a trial on beef import bribery scandal at the Anti-Corruption Court (Tipikor), here on Friday.

Suswono said during his meeting with the chairman of the Legal Council of the Prosperous Justice Party, Hilmi only told him about the public complaints on the mixture of beef with pork and rat meat.

"Hilmi ever told us about the public complaints on the pork-and-rat tainted beef case. He said he belonged to an Islamic party which dealt with the matter. The case hurt Muslims," Suswono said. (*/DWA)
