Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Presidential Aide for Social and Natural Disaster Affairs Andi Arief warned the local people and government agencies on Saturday of the increased volcanic activities of Mount Guntur in Garut District, West Java.

"The local government agencies should prepare and alert the local people in the face of possible worst event as a result of the increased volcanic activities of Mt Guntur," Andi said here on Saturday.

Andi made the remarks in connection with the increased volcanic activities of Mount Guntur whose status was raised from normal to an alert level on April 2, 2013.

Based on its history, Mt Guntur has horrible eruption experience. "We hope the increased volcanic activities would not end up in an eruption," Andi added.

Head of Geological Disaster Mitigation Volcanology Center (PVMBG) Surono said Mt Guntur in Garut, West Java, had experienced several critical conditions marked with continuous volcanic tremors.

He said that the agency had observed three times of volcanic tremors. (*/DWA)
