"The damage was caused by poor quality of leveling and exposure to rain," said a source at the airport who declined to mention his name.
According to him, after the leveling was done three days ago some parts of the layer were found imperfect then they peeled it off for improvement.
"But rain fell when the new layer was about to be re-applied, causing the layer not strongly pasted and eventually flaked," he said.
He said the runway damage was found on Thursday morning at around 9:30 pm.
"There was ground sensor signals indicating the runway was not perfect," he said. (*/DWA)
