Solo (Antara Bali) - The Sebelas Maret University (UNS) of Solo in Central Java will hold a tree planting activity along Bengawan Solo river banks to provide sustainable green environment, and to prevent floods and erosion.
Around 1,500 tree will be planted along the east bank of the river at Losari Hamlet and Semanggi village on Saturday to mark the 37th anniversary of Sebelas Maret University.
"All of us are responsible for floods that hit Solo. UNS, as an academic institution that sits close to Bengawan Solo River, needs to work together to prevent damage resulted by the river," Chairman of the Committee of the 37th Dies Natalis of UNS Pardono said here Friday.
There will be 10 tree species that have strong roots to be planted that they will be firmly hold the soil and stand on the river bank.
The tree replanting program will involve some institutions and residents of Semanggi, Kampung Sewu and Pucang Sawit Villages. (IGT)
