Bandung (Antara Bali) - West Java provincial deputy governor Dede Yusuf Macan Effendi has urged Jakarta governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to work together to ease upstream flooding in West Java through the use of conservation systems.
"I invite Pak (Mr) Jokowi to jointly tackle the floods that always inundate Jakarta by using both provinces' budgets or APBD to finance the re-greening measure in the flood upstream mountain areas in West Java," Dede said during his working visit in the Miftahul Huda Islamic Boarding School, Gombong, Tasikmalaya district, on Saturday.
According to Dede, flood prevention work should be conducted from upstream flood areas by growing perennials through the inter-cropping system in kitchen gardens, especially on the (West Java) mountain slopes.
Dede said, further, that "situ", or ponds, should be developed in several watersheds heading to Jakarta.
"West Java wishes to be the leading province in conducting natural conservation, because most landslides occurring here also impacted Jakarta," he said.(IGT)
