Tanjungpinang (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has no plan to send aid or volunteers on a humanitarian mission to Gaza Strip, Palestine, currently under Israeli attacks, its chief, Jusuf Kalla said.

"Gaza is too far and so our help may not be effective. It is not impossible that the cost (of sending a mission there) would be higher than the aid," he said when installing the new PMI Riau Islands board here on Wednesday.

The former vice president said the ones to help would be the regional red cross agencies in the Middle Eastern region such as the Red Crescent.

"Basically PMI supports what the international red cross agencies have been doing but it is enough for PMI to operate in Asia such as dealing with the Rohingya refugees in Myanmar," he said.

"Save Palestine" solidarity actions continued in a number of regions in the country mobilized by a number of Islamic and student organizations.(*/M038)
