Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The government of Bali province has launched an innovative program called Integrated Village Development Movement (Gerbang Sadu) in order to reduce poverty, according to a local government official.
"The Gerbang Sadu innovative program aims to support the national program of Independent Village Community Empowerment (PNPM) in its efforts to overcome poverty in the province," Village Administration and Community Empowerment Board (BPMPD) spokesman Putu Astawa said here on Thursday.
"The main objective of the program is to get the village community involved in speeding up poverty alleviation efforts, particularly in those villages where the poverty rate is above 35 percent," he added.
According to Astawa, there are 82 villages, or 11.62 percent of the total number of villages in Bali, that are in a state of extreme poverty.(*/M038)
