Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Russian citizen Sergei Chernykh (43) was sentenced to 11 years in jail here on Tuesday for attempting to smuggle hashish in 359 capsules.
Chief judge Tri Budiono of the Denpasar District Court said when reading the verdict that judges shared the
view of public prosecutor I Ketut Wijaya that the defendant was proven validly importing 695 grams of hashish to violate Article 113 of Law Number 35 of 2009 on narcotics.
The judges also fined the defendant Rp1 billion or six months more in jail for failing to pay it.
Sergei was caught by customs officers upon arrival at Bali's Ngurah Rai airport aboard Malaysia Airlines MH 715 from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 26, 2012.(IGT)
