Lombok (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium (KBI) is determined to improve the international biotechnology innovations by organizing more international events involving developed countries.

"We want the Indonesian biotechnology products to be able to penetrate the world market and this is very likely because they have the potential," KBI Chairman Prof.Dr.Bambang Prasetya said here Wednesday after the opening of the 5th Indonesian Biotechnology Conference held in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara province.

The conference was opened by provincial secretary Muhammad Nur and attended by rector of the University of Mataram (Unram) Prof. Sunarpi.

The conference was organized by KBI, and starting this year it involved experts, academics, policy makers and representatives of the private sector from several countries, such as the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, China, India, Britain, Germany and The Netherlands.

Prof. Bambang said the biotechnology role in developing the fields of food/agriculture, energy, health, environment and processing industry had been growing well.(IGT)
