Negara (Antara Bali) - A man was arrested for stealing a motorcycle after he filed a missing cell phone complaint the day after he committed the crime.
The Negara district Police Department spokesperson Adjunct Police Commissary Wayan Setiajaya said on Wednesday that they have arrested the suspect, known only as ATP.
The police department said that it was a lucky coincidence and they didn¿t have to waste a lot of time and manpower to deal with the motorcycle theft case.
Wayan said that the incident took place on Tuesday, when the 22-year-old suspect contacted his old schoolmate who works at a restaurant in Mendoyo area, Muhammad Diantara, for an overnight stay in the restaurant employee's mess. Diantara told the police that when he woke up in the morning, ATP was missing along with his motorcycle.
Suspicious of ATP's behavior, Diantara took his friend to the nearest police station in Jembrana to report the phone theft.
"During further investigation at the police station, we searched ATP's pocket and found his cell phone's SIM card," Wayan said.
ATP was immediately arrested, even though he denied stealing his friend's motorcycle.(IGT)
