Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Agriculture and Forestry Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) agreed to cooperate in forestry in supporting 2011 as International Forestry Year being promoted by the United Nations.
"The ministers in the 33rd ASEAN Agricultural and Forestry meeting realized for the need and contribution for a sustainable forestry development," Agriculture Minister Suswono in the development forestry conference told the AMAF press conference in Jakarta Friday.
Suswono agreed that everything being done in the sector was aimed at saving forests to make them beneficial and producing economic, social and ecological functions.
AMAF agreed to build a sustainable forest management in law enforcement in forestry and promoting monitoring, evaluation and reporting (MAR) on the basis of criteria that had been agreed to by the ASEAN member countries.
In addition, AMAF also agreed to sustainable forestry development in producing wood and non-food products including development medicinal crops and certified log control mechanism to avoid illegal loggings.
"The ministries also agreed the fostering efforts of overcoming rare animal trading and fostering animals for forestry development," Suswono said.*
