Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian government is consistent in implementing its decision on ratifying the Paris Agreement aimed at slowing the pace of global warming, a lawmaker said.
"The consistency of Indonesia as one of the countries taking an active part in ratifying the Paris Agreement is worth of support from all sides," Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VII Satya Widya Yudha said is a press statement released on Saturday.
He was making the remarks while addressing the 23nd UN Climate Change Conference held in Bonn, Germany, on Wednesday (Nov 23).
In principle, the DPR fully supports the Indonesian government's commitment to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the 13th point of the SDGs concerning climate change, he said.
"The DPR and the government have committed themselves to integrate the 13th point of the SDGs into cross-sectoral national action for climate change. This is important for Indonesia whose role in international fora is reckoned," he said.
The national action for climate change including lowering greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent without foreign assistance or up to 41 percent with foreign assistance by 20030 must be cross-sectoral, he said.
Xinhua earlier reported the 23th climate conference opened on Nov 6 with call for all countries to comply with the Paris Agreement.
The 23nd COP is assigned to map a guide to implementing the Paris Agreement agreed upon by almost each country in 2015. The Paris Agreement is aimed at controlling climate change by slashing gas emissions and setting global target to maintain average temperature rise of not more than two Celsius degrees above the pre-industrial level.
