Batam, Riau Islands (Antara Bali) - The police raided several locations in the city of Batam, Riau Islands Province, on Friday morning and arrested six suspected terrorists.
"Yes, six people have been arrested by the anti-terror squad from the National Police Headquarters in Batam," Brigadier General Sam Budigusdian, chief of the regional police command, stated.
Budigusdian said the six arrested terror suspects were 31-year-old GR, the head of the group; 46-year-old TS; 35-year-old ES; 21-year-old Tmz; 20-year-old HGY, and 19-year-old MTS.
He added that the suspects were all Indonesian citizens hailing from various regions.
"Mostly they are factory workers. Only one is a bank officer. This is the result of the developments in the terror cases that have occurred outside Batam," he remarked.
Before conducting the raid and arresting the suspects, the police had monitored them for the past year.
"They have long been watched by the police. For almost a year, we have kept a close eye on them before finally conducting the raid," he revealed.
Budigusdian explained that the raid was conducted at around 5 a.m. local time.
"That is all what I can disclose now. Let our men work first to unveil their networks. Usually, it would take seven days," he added.
The operation involved several police personnel in full gear. The locals claimed that after the raids, the police left carrying a bag with them. (WDY)
