Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo has said the flow of homebound travelers could be controlled properly.
"I think that the exodus of homebound travelers can be managed well as it is happening through the Merak Port," President Joko Widodo stated here on Monday.
The president added that the number of home-bound travelers using motorcycles had increased this year.
"But the exodus can be controlled well," the president stressed.
The president also highlighted maritime transportation services for the travelers.
The purchase of two large vessels, used for sea transport during the 2016 Idul Fitri holiday, had helped in facilitating the flow of homecoming traffic.
"The vessels which were being used at the Merak Port can carry a load of 400 vehicles," the president noted.
A member of the House of Representatives Commission V, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, had earlier praised the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry for the improvement in road infrastructure to accommodate the exodus of homebound travelers this year.
"The road was in a good shape to facilitate the journey of Idul Fitri holiday travelers. It was better than it was last year," Cucun said here on Thursday.
He further remarked that the development of infrastructure projects has become one of priorities of the central government.
However, the government should be concerned about the numerous sections of road that are prone to landslides during the rainy season.
These roads are along the Bandung-Nagreg-Garut-Tasikmalaya-Ciamis-Banjarnegara-Cilacap route.
With regards to Javas northern coastal highway, locally known as Pantura, he noted that the police should offer an alternate route to reduce traffic congestion. (WDY)
