Semarang, C Java (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Batik Foundation has gifted Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain a piece of Indonesian batik cloth and paintings depicting the Queen wearing a batik.

The Indonesian batik cloth and paintings were handed over by the founder of the Indonesian Batik Foundation, Dipo Alam, at the Buckingham Palace, London during the Indonesian Weekend program held in Potters Fields from May 28-29, 2016, according to a press statement issued by the foundation and received here on Tuesday.

"This painting depicts Queen Elizabeth II dressed in Indonesian batik with the design combining the 'sawunggalih' symbol, the royal insignia which represents glory, with rice fields as a backdrop," the statement said.

It was intended as a gift on the occasion of the Queen's 90th birthday, celebrated on April 21, coinciding with the Kartini Day in Indonesia.

It was a subtle print of batik, a combination of traditional batik with the Sawunggalih motive as a symbol of glory and triumph, with Great Britain's royal ornaments.

It is hoped that the gifts will contribute to making the British people more aware about the Indonesian batik. The Queen receiving the gift will help promote this art.

The Indonesian Weekend featured national cultural displays, including catering, music, culture and fashion.(WDY)
