Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The nation's development plan could be used as a guideline to formulate policies, according to Indonesia's fifth president Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"The pattern of the state development plan can be justified scientifically," Soekarnoputri stated here on Wednesday.

She explained that various experts and scholars were involved in the National Planning Council.

"Some 589 people joined the council," Megawati remarked.

She said the pattern not only covered the entire region but also encompassed all forms and levels of development.

"There should be leadership and planning to execute the development plan properly," the general chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) stated.

A comprehensive plan was needed to improve the welfare of the society.

The development plan comprised political, economic, social, cultural, and cognitive activities.

"Overall, such a plan should be implemented by all Indonesian people to realize its goals," Megawati stated. (WDY)
