Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The government and people of Indonesia congratuled Aung San Suu Kyi over the victory of her National League for Democracy Party in the recent general election.

The Indonesian foreign ministry said in its press statement received here on Tuesday the Indonesian government also expressed appreciation to the Myanmar government under President Thein Sein that has successfully brought Myanmar towards democracy and for its declaration to accept the result of fhe election.

Indonesia hopes the process of transition in Myanmar would be smooth and peaceful.

"The result of the election reflects the aspiration and real hope of the people of Myanmar," the foreign ministry said in the statement.

The indonesian government said it believed the people of Myanmar would use the momentum to assure democratic political transition in the spirit of peace and reconciliation.

It reiterated its commitment to continue to support Myanmar's efforts and steps towards sustainable reform and democratization.

Indonesia hopes it could continue its close coopertion that has been developed with Myanmar so far in the bilateral as well as in the ASEAN framework and various interenational forums.

The Indonesian government hopes the cooperation that has been developed so far would be useful for the interests of thd people of the two countries and for the common goals of achieving peace, security, stability and prosperity in the region as well as in the world, it said.

 Myanmar's  Union Election Commission has officially announced the National League for Democracy as the winner of the election. (WDY)
