Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indian government has lifted the anti dumping import duty on Indonesia's float glass opening an opportunity for Indonesian producers of that commodity to boost exports to that country.

The lifting of the anti dumping import duty should be fully utilized by Indonesian producers and exporters of float glass to help contribute to redressing the country's trade balance, acting foreign trade director general Karyanto Suprih said in a news release here on Thursday.

Karyanto said the government of India has maintained anti dumping import duty slapped on float glass  imports from China but not on product from Indonesia.

Imports of float glass from Indonesia met the conditions to be exempted from extension of the anti dumping import duty, he said.

India has slapped anti dumping import duty on Indonesian products of float glass for 10 years and Indonesia  has said that extension of the penalty would be unfair.

Ten years should be enough for Indian domestic industry to recover from any damage caused by the alleged dumping .

The Indian government started investigation of dumping charge against float glass imported from Indonesia  on July 5 in 2002.

On September 8 in 2015, the government of India announced that the anti dumping import duty was no longer slapped on float glass imported from Indonesia.

The anti dumping import duty had been slapped on float glass with thickness of 2 mm to 12 mm (both inclusive) of clear as well as tinted variety (other than green glass) but not including reflective glass, processed glass meant for decorative, industrial or automotive purposes. (WDY)
