Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Trade Minister Thomas Lembong launched the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Center here on Monday as part of the efforts to familiarize the public with the planned implementation of the AEC on January 6, 2016.

"The AEC Center was badly needed to enable all parties to have access to updated data and progress on the AEC. As such, Indonesia will be able to take maximum advantage of the AEC for its economy," he said.

The Center will also play an important role in informing various stakeholders, particularly regional government officials, business people, academics and the general public, about market opportunities, he said.

One of the keys to the successful implementation of the AEC is good understanding on the part of the public about the AEC, its advantages and ways to benefit from it, he said.

The AEC Center will provide the public with knowledge about the AEC, he said.

"The public's ability to have better knowledge about the AEC is one of the keys to the successful implementation of the AEC," he said.

Director General of International Trade Cooperation at the Trade Ministry Bachrul Chairi said the AEC Center has been set up with the aim of providing trade and service consultation to the public.

"Hopefully, the AEC Center will serve as a portal for all kinds of information related to the AEC. The public, other stakeholders and business people can benefit from the AEC Center properly and obtain kinds of information related to the AEC," Chairi said. (WDY)
