Yogyakarta (Antara Bali) - Transport experts from the ASEAN countries have agreed to improve cross-border integrated transport network through the 7th Transit Transport Coordinating Board meeting in Yogyakarta.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation Sugihardjo stated here on Thursday that the transportation cooperation forum aims to improve transportation and logistics services in a bid to make them more integrated in the ASEAN region.

"In the context of the ASEAN region's development, cooperation in the field of transportation is expected to drive the growth of trade and boost regional connectivity," he affirmed.

Sugihardjo added that an integrated transportation network will also help to realize the vision of a production-based single market, as planned in the blueprint for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

According to Sugihardjo, this meeting will take into consideration and adopt the recommendations of the 29th and 30th ASEAN Transport Facilitation Working Group (TFWG) meetings, which were respectively held in Surabaya (East Java) on April 22-23, 2015, and in Yogyakarta on August 26-27, 2015.

The recommendations include the regulatory and legal procedures in each of the ASEAN countries on transit transport, cross-state transport agreement, and multimodal transport regulations in addition to customs issues and the ASEAN Customs Transit System (ACTS), as well as insurance issues and the ACTS central management.

The transport meeting will also discuss sub-regional information exchange, trilateral and bilateral border traffic management, including the cross-border transport agreement of the Mekong sub-region comprising Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In addition, the meeting will discuss cross-border transportation management in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines as well as the management of bilateral and trilateral cross-border transportation.

Sugihardjo stated that this meeting will make a recommendation that will be put forth during the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting and the ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting. (WDY)
