Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Miss Universe 2009, Miyasaka Emiri of Japan, is to  participate in a marathon race as part of the Bali International Sports Week (BISW) 2010, a spokesman for the event's organizers, Ida Bagus Antara, said here Wednesday.

Ida Bagus Antara said Miyasaka had confirmed she would  join the  5K marathon that will take place on Sunday (Oct 17).

"She has confirmed to the committee that she will run in the marathon's  five-kilometer category," he said.

The race would be  participated in by more or less 1.000 runners and divided into three categories : 5K, 10K and 21K marathons.

"This competition will be joined by about 1.000 runners from Indonesia and other countries. BISW is one of the programs of the Nusa Dua Fiesta (NDF) which is to be held for the 8th time," he said accompanied by the Chief of Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC), Made Mandra, and the general chairman of NDF, I Gusti Ketut Purnaya .

Nusa Dua Fiesta is an annual event aimed at maintaining the image of Bali as an international tourism destination.

A number of high Indonesian state officials would take turns to flag off the races in the different categories. Youth and Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng would flagg off the  21K marathon, Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika the  10K marathon and Inspector General Hadiatmoko the 5K marathon.

"The start line of the race will be in Nusa Dua.  The runners will cover the length of the Ngurah Rai Bypass road and  back again to the finish line , also in Nusa Dua," he said.

The committe had also invited several national athletes like Triasningsih and Johan Jauhari to join the race.

"We are waiting for their confirmation to participate in this annual marathon race, which will be ended on Sunday (Oct 17). They usually confirm to the committee one day before  D-day, as they did last year," he added.(*)
