Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is expected to inaugurate an Indonesian hospital in Gaza in the near future, after the hospital is handed over to the government of Palestine, a spokesman said.

"Bapak (Mr) President has expressed his readiness to inaugurate the Indonesian hospital in Gaza, but he has yet to confirm the time of the inauguration," Presidium Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) member Jose Rizal Jurnalis told the press here on Friday.

On Wednesday, June 17, MER-C officials reported to the president regarding the inauguration plans for the hospital, Rizal stated.

Further, according to Rizal, the president was also interested to learn more about the hospital, which was built without Indonesian government funding.

Thus, Rizal hoped that the inauguration plan of the hospital could be added to the agenda of the president's planed visit to the Middle East.

In addition, House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto is expected to attend the hospital inauguration, Rizal revealed.

The Indonesian hospital in Gaza had been handed over to the government of Palestine at the soft opening ceremony through the signing of a note by the MER-C representative and the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Rizal said.

The grand opening of the hospital, however, will occur at the inauguration ceremony with President Jokowi, he added.

Over a five year period MER-C collected Rp120 billion in donations from the Indonesian public to build a two-storey hospital that has beds for 100 patients, Rizal pointed out. (WDY)
