Surabaya, E Java (Antara Bali) -- Indonesian Shipyard Company (PAL) is exploring Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar to build fast missile boat KCR-60 and Saudi Arabia to build an escort missile destroyer vessel.

The management of PAL explored the three countries after successfully winning the tender for the construction of two units of Strategic Sealift Vessel for the Filipino navy, Spokesperson for PAL Indonesia Bayu Witjaksono said here on Tuesday.

"This is a strategic effort to build international trust in PAL Indonesia to construct major naval weaponry systems," he stated.

Witjaksono added that the two warships for the Philippines are in the process of being built and are 25 percent complete.

"While the first ship is in the keel laying stage, the second has reached the first steel cutting process," he pointed out.

Witjaksono hopes that the construction of the vessels will be completed on time in November 2015 so they can be handed over to the Filipino navy in May 2016.

Earlier, President Director of PAL Indonesia Firmansyah Arifin had noted that the ship orders from the Philippines were worth US$40 million and that they were an improvement from the typical freighters produced by PAL in 2010.

"Our products have been in much demand in other countries of late. Currently, we are exploring Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar and Saudi Arabia," Witjaksono affirmed. (WDY)
