Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- Indonesia will be the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair, an international event on literature and culture to be held from October 14 to 18 in Germany.

"It is a great opportunity for Indonesia to be the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which displays works of literature, music and culture, including architecture and statues," Ministry of Education and Culture Anies Baswedan said here on Wednesday.

According to the minister, President Joko Widodo responded well to Indonesia being elected to be the guest of honor at the event.

"Indonesia is the largest country in the Southeast Asian region, but most Germans do not know anything about the country. They are also not aware that Bali is located in Indonesia," a representative of the German delegation Claudia Kaiser said.

Organizers of the Frankfurt Book Fair will display Indonesian literary works, as well as works of arts and culture, she stated.

Moreover, Chairman of the National Committee of the Frankfurt Book Fair Slamet Rahardjo noted that German journalists have visited Indonesia to write about the country's literature and culture.

Indonesia is interested to participate in this event to project the country as a source of inspiration for the world.

"In Indonesia, the event is expected to promote better literacy," Rahardjo remarked. (WDY)
