Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Jakarta Metro Jaya Police arrested 31 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals believed to be members of a cybercrime syndicate extorting money from Chinese Government officials and affluent people.
Director of Crime and Investigation of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Krisna Murti stated on Monday that the suspects, comprising 16 females and 15 males, were arrested on Sunday (May 24) night across several places in Kemang, Jakarta.
"The action was taken following our investigation," Murti remarked.
Several suspects were arrested in a house located on Kemang V Street no.15 and in Hotel Fave on Kemang I Street no.6.
Twenty Chinese and Taiwanese nationals were then arrested in Hotel Garden on Taman Kemang Street.
The 31 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals have now been temporarily detained at a shelter on Kemang Selatan 1D Street no.15A RT04/03.
The police had earlier arrested 29 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, on Monday morning (MAY 18).
The foreign nationals were believed to be involved in extorting money from Chinese Government officials and wealthy people through cyber fraud.(WDY)
