Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian government has called on conflicting parties in Yemen to stop using violent means and start holding dialogs to find a peaceful solution, according to Vice President M Jusuf Kalla.

"Indonesia is very much concerned, and hopes the conflict in Yemen to be solved through dialogs and peaceful resolution," Jusuf Kalla said in his office, here, Wednesday.

Therefore, the Indonesian government has conveyed a proposal on establishment of a task force,  to ambassadors of the OIC member countries, he added.  

Earlier, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) concurrently the Executive Board of Muhammadiyah Din Syamsudin said he and representatives of Islamic-based mass organizations have expressed their views on the latest developments in Muslim majority countries, particularly those in the Middle East region, to the Vice President.

"We who are from the Indonesian Ulema Council and leaders of some Islamic mass organizations, have discussed problems being faced by us, particularly conflicts in the Islamic world," Din said.

The prominent Muslim leaders have agreed to encourage the Indonesian government, through Vice President Jusuf Kalla, to take an initiative of helping promote a world peace. The initiative should be conveyed to ambassadors of the OIC member countries to Indonesia, he added.  

The Indonesian government on Wednesday invited OIC member countries' ambassadors to Indonesia to a meeting held at the Merdeka Palace. The government represented by Vice President M Jusuf Kalla urged Muslim majority countries to maintain unity and promote world peace.

In the meantime, violence in Yemen has escalated after the Yemeni president and prime minister resigned on January 22 and rebel leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi seized power in the country. Indonesia has expressed concern over the prolonged conflict in Yemen and has urged every party to refrain from committing violent acts and to be mindful of the safety of civilians in Yemen, both locals and foreigners.
