Mandalika, W Nusa Tenggara (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) pledges an injection of Rp1.8 trillion to resume construction of the Mandalika special economic zone (KEK) in West Nusa Tenggara.
The fund will be available next year to finance the construction of infrastructure of the KEK, the president said here on Friday. He said the land for the KEK was already cleared in 1987, but the project has been left idle over the years.
He said the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC)as the operator of the KEP already received an injection of Rp250 billion . "Next year, there would be an additional injection of Rp1.8 trillion," he added.
The Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation as the operator of the special economic zone is expected to immediately to carry out the construction of the infrastructure to attract investors to the zone.
Jokowi, who was on a visit to that region said the area is potential for tourism development. That area will need an investment of Rp36 trillion after the completion of the development of the basic infrastructure,he said.
He said the government does not hesitate to carry out the big project in West Nusa Tenggara as it studies showed that it is a potential tourist destination. The president said development of the area would create around 8,000 jobs. He said there has been investor from China interested in the project. (WDY)
