Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo witnessed the signing of memorandum of understanding on Saturday between the province of East Nusa Tenggara and Jakarta and Central Java.

The MOU with Jakarta was signed between NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya with Governor Basuki Tjahja Purnama on animal husbandry and with Central Java Governor Ganjar Purnomo was on fishery.

"I hope with the cooperation with Jakarta, there would be a sharp increase in the animal husbandry production of NTT," Jokowi said
The president said Jakarta needs large supply of beef and supplies have always been in deficit.

"I say no more imports if possible. If NTT if all the supply comes from NTT, the economy of two provinces would be equally good," he said.

He said similar cooperation would be expanded with other provinces.

Similarly cooperation with Central Java is expected to contribute to the welfare of the two provinces, he said.

The MOU between Jakarta and NTT was a follow-up of earlier agreement the president made with NTT when he was governor of Jakarta to reduce dependence on import for beef or live cows.

The president is lay the corner stone of a dam project in the village of Reknamo.

The project to cost around Rp782 billion is to supply standard water for urban areas in the Kupang regency and to irrigate 841 farm lands in that district.

It will also serve to prevent flooding in the upstream areas and to feed hydro power plant to be built there . (WDY)
