Sampit (Antara Bali) - At least 985 citizens of six villages in E Kotawaringin District, C Kalimantan Province evacuated due to flood that inundated their residences.

"The citizens generally evacuate to their relatives and neighbors houses in other areas which are not affected by flood," said Head of Tumbang Kalang Village, E Kotawaringin District Hardi P Hadi here, Thursday.

The flood is caused by the overflow of River Kalang after heavy rain poured the region on Tuesday to early Wednesday.

Hadi said six villages which submerged by floods consist of Tumbang Ramai, Sungai Puring, Kuluk Talawang, Sungai Hanya, Tumbang Maya and Tumbang Boloi of Telaga Antang Sub-district.

"The water depth reached to 1.5 to 2 meters. The water height is predicted to be increase as the water continues to rise," he said.

Officer predicted the flood will inundate more villages as heavy rain continue to pour on Thursday afternoon.

"We have reported the flood to Sub-district administration by expecting aid and assistants. The incident does not claim any casualties. However they need aid," Hadi said. (*/DWA)
