Yogyakarata (Antara Bali) - Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Surya Dharma Ali said Indonesia would help prevent conflict in South Thailand through a means of education and proselytizing.

"The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has established cooperation in the education and proselytizing fields which will serve as a bridge for the two countries to maintain peace in South Thailand," the minister said here on Thursday night.

He said that the cooperation in the educational field was realized in the form of scholarships given to 50 students in South Thailand. They would be given a chance to study in universities under the auspices of the ministry of religious affairs.

The minister said that Indonesia would also send teachers to South Thailand who would teach the Malay or Indonesian language.

Indonesia   also invited a delegation from South Thailand to visit Islamic boarding schools and Islamic universities in Indonesia. The aim of the visit is to explain the patter of education, particularly on Islam in Indonesia, the minister said. (*/DWA)
