Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Minister for State Enterprises Dahlan Iskan said state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) could stop importing used coaches of electric railway as from 2016.

So far KAI has imported used electric railway coaches from Japan, but in three years, PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA), the state owned railway industrial company, would be able to supply KAI with its own production, Dahlan said here on Friday.

He said INKA is developing and improving the quality of its product of railway coaches. "INKA will supply not only KAI with  railway coaches. Exports are possible if the quality is up to standards," he said.

INKA is cooperating with world class railway train producers like Mombardier  and General Electric in producing railway coaches, he said.

"INKA has to focus on production of railway coaches to meet growing demand from KAI and stop plan to produce automotive products," he said. (*/DWA/T007)
