Badung (Antara Bali) - The Bali provincial government is optimistic it will be able to lower the poverty rate in the region to one percent through more focused development programs.

"The poverty rate in the region now has already declined from 4,18 percent in March to 3,95 percent in September," Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika said here on Saturday.

According to him, the target is ambitious, but he is convinced it will be met. "We have a lot of programs such as house renovations, an integrated farming system (Simantri), a regional credit guarantee system (Jamkrida), the Bali Mandara health insurance (JKBM), integrated rural development movement (Gerbangsadu) and others that would help alleviate poverty," he said.

He said later those who are in the one percent bracket would be the ones who are really lazy and would not fight to overcome their  poverty through the programs that have been provided by the government.

The numer of poor people in Bali in September 2012 according to the Bali Central Bureau Statistic office is 3,95 percent of total population in the region or 160.950 people, down from 168.780 people in March.(*/M038)
