Kuala Lumpur (Antara Bali) - A Malaysian employer in Kedah has been accused of beating Suryani Abdullah, an Indonesian migrant worker.
Suryani, who is from Jakarta, claimed that she has been tortured by her employer for the last six months.
"My employer always gave me a lot of work. I woke up late on Friday (Nov 23, 2012), at 7am, because I was tired. My employer became angry, and he did not accept my reason for getting up late," she said on Tuesday.
Suryani decided to escape from her employer's residence in Taman Sejahtera, Sungai Petani, Kedah, because she could not tolerate her employer's wrath.
The media reported that Suryani's employer threatened to send her back to Indonesia if she failed to carry out her duties. According to Suryani, she used to work from 5am till late at night. Suryani said that her employer often hit her on the hands, body and face. He used to hit her with blunt objects, until she was covered in bruises.
When she tried to escape, she was saved by her neighbour, who brought her to a clinic because she was too weak. However, the clinic refused to treat Suryani because they were unwilling to deal with the Malaysian Police.
Then, the neighbour took Suryani to the Crisis Relief Squad MCA (CRSM) and carried her to the labour supplier agency office. Meanwhile, Khalil Arifin, Commissioner Assistant of the Kuala Muda Regional Police said that police officers have taken the statements of Suryani and her employer. However, the police have not detained Suryani's employer yet. (*/dwa/T007)
