Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - ASEAN countries and parliaments are called on to intensify diplomacy to cope with the tragedy faced by Rohingya Muslim community in Myanmar, Muslim intellectual Azyumardi Azra said.
ASEAN countries and parliaments could seek talks with Myanmar, Azyumardi said on the sidelines of inter faith dialog of International Parliament here on Thursday.
Instead of condemnation and exclusive approach, ASEAN should seek inclusive approach, he said.
The Rohingya human tragedy has claimed lives and thousands of ethnic Muslims have fled home to neighboring countries including Indonesia.
Meanwhile, it is difficult for relief aids from other countries to reach the conflict areas .
Defense system of Myanmar makes it difficult for humanitarian mission to enter Rohingya, the former rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah said.
"Therefore, inclusive approach is necessary instead of condemnation," he said.(*/dwa)
