Manado (Antara Bali) - Bank Indonesia said credit risks faced by banks in North Sulawesi is still well under control as indicated by non performing loan (NPL) ratio  and concentration of credits in the province.

"Gross NPL has been kept  below the maximum level  set by Bank Indonesia,"  Suhaedi, chief representative of the central bank for North Sulawesi said here on Saturday.

In the third quarter of 2012, the gross NPL of banks in the province was only 2.57 percent, well safe below 5 percent set by the central bank. "The NPL ratio was the lowest level so far in 2012," Suhaedi said.

With that ratio banks still have room for credit expansion in this region especially for productive sectors, he said.(*/M038)
