Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A total of 85 athletes from 13 countries are participating in the Asia Military Skydiving championship or "Conseil International du Sport Militaire/CISM" and the "2012 Indonesian Military Skydiving Open" on September 23-30 here.
"The athletes consist of 72 men and 13 women from 13 countries," the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) chief, Admiral Agus Suhartono said after opening the two Military Skydiving championships at Halim Perdanakusuma military airbase here on Sunday.
According to him, the participating countries in the Military Skydiving championships are among other things the USA, Russia, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Australia, Japan, Qatar, the Philippines and host Indonesia.
The TNI chief said the two events (the CISM and the 2012 Indonesian Military Skydiving Open) are held simultaneously because all athletes are not the CISM members.
The two championships are aimed at enhancing friendship among athletes of the participating countries in effort to step up quality of the skydiving and widely promote the image of TNI and CISM, Suhartono said.(*/DWA)
