Surabaya (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's largest cellular phone operator PT Telkomsel said it is eying one million new subscribers  from among the members of the Indonesian Cooperatives of farmers and fishermen (Inkoptan).

Head of Telkomsel's Community Management Herry Setiawan said here on Sunday Inkoptan with members around 21 million all over the country provides a potential market.

"We are not over ambitious. Our target is only 5 million of the community to become Telkomsel's subscribers," Herry said after signing cooperation in telecommunications  service with Inkoptan.

Telkom is offering e-payment service or T-Cash service with lower tariffs and free phone calls for 30 days  between the members of to community group.

T-Cash is an electronic payment system allowing its customers to make transactions worth between Rp 100,000 (US$11.6) and Rp 5 million using their cell phones.

Herry said Telkomsel already has similar cooperation with other community groups including religious, professionals and lifestyle communities.

The subsidiary of the state telecommunications company PT Telkom already has 10 million subscribers from among community groups, he said.

The number, to add to the total number of Telkomsel's subscribers now reaching more than  100 million, is expected to double  by the end of this year, Herry said.

"Cooperation with Inkoptan is part of Telkomsel's commitment to contribute to the national and community development," he said.(*/T007)
