Jakarta (Antara Bali) - PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) reported a 22 percent fall in the sales of its Honda motorcycles to 261,946 units in August compared to the same month in 2011.
Deputy general manager of PT AHM Thomas Wijaya said declines were recorded for all brands of motorcycles on the domestic market in August. PT AHM fared better with the smallest fall in sales, Thomas said in a statement made available to ANTARA news agency here on Sunday.
Honda has continued to lead recording the largest market share in the country with Yamaha the closest rival. "The decline in sales last month was caused by fewer working days with long Idul Fitri holidays," Thomas said, adding it was an annual cycle.
He said sales are expected to rise again this month. Based on data from the Indonesian Association of Motorcycle Industry (AISI), total sales of motorcycle on the domestic market reached only 429,236 units in August.
PT AHM accounted for 61.03 percent or 261,946 units of the total sales, Thomas said. Automatic scooters contributed the largest or 189,495 units to AHM's total sales followed by cube type motorcycles 59,109 units and sport motorcycle 13,342 units.
AHM led in the market of automatic scooters in the country with market share of 76.32 percent. Its automatic scooter models include Honda BeAT with sales of 96,154 units, Honda Vario series 76,394 units, Honda Spacy 5,355 units, Honda Scoopy 11,573 units, and Honda PCX 19 units.(*/T007)
